Career Readiness:

JA Career Exploration (Grades 6-12)

Aligned with NJSLS 9.1, students will assess their abilities, interests, work preferences, and values, express how jobs require specific interests and skills, and relate the impact of personal interests and abilities on career choices.

They’ll investigate a variety of careers and the skills, education preparation, training, and personal qualities needed for those careers, and create a Personal Career Action Plan based on what they learned. Curriculum differs for middle and high school.

JA Girl Empowerment Series (Grades 9-12)

JA's Women's Future Leadership Forum- our signature girl empowerment event- is now virtual! High School girls learn from a diverse and dynamic panel of successful NJ women leaders in a weekly webinar series, learn to set achievable goals for themselves, discover their own strengths, and create a personal elevator pitch.

JA Speaker Series (Grades 6-12)

In JA Career Speakers Series, educator or mentor guest speakers visit the virtual classroom and share information about his/ her career, work, and education. The speaker may display props, samples of his or her work, and other visuals to help engage students. Implementation and activities will vary based on grade level.

JA Soft Skills (Grades 8-12)

This program helps students build the soft skills and behaviors associated with professional communication, including the kinds of communication required during a job search as well as in an entry level position.

The program has five modules: Applications and Resumes, Job Interviews, Cell Phones in the Workplace, Workplace Writing, and Workplace Communication. Schools/students may utilize one or more of the modules. The program includes an online app created by JA and PwC, which helps students break down the cost of achieving career goals. Students can assess more than 100 careers, see required education levels, and then calculate the cost of education.

Entrepreneurship:

JA App Challenge (Grades: 6-12)

Students can sign up for this all-online app challenge – no coding experience necessary! Middle and high school students work in teams of (up to) 3, learn how to make a mobile app, and then share a 1 to 2 minute video demonstrating the app’s function and goals. Creativity is encouraged, as the app should solve a real world problem.

The competition will be divided into middle and high school categories. Deadline for app submission is May 31, 2020 at 11:59 pm.

JA Entrepreneurial Launch Lesson (Grades 9-12)

Students are given the opportunity to connect with Entrepreneurs through live or pre-recorded videos or PowerPoint presentations. These Entrepreneurs, often local business owners, provide relevant information about their company and entrepreneurial journey, and share advice and next steps for students who are interested in starting their own business.

JA Our Nation, Innovation, & STEM (Grades 5-8)

Introduction to the need for entrepreneurial and innovative thinking to meet the requirements of high-growth, high-demand careers and explores the concept of globalization in business. Students identify the characteristics of a free market economy, and learn about successful scientists and entrepreneurs.

Students will understand that businesses need people with technical skills to support high growth, high-demand jobs, and explore STEM careers through an interactive online game.

Financial Literacy:

JA Finance Park Simulation (Grades: 6-12)

What is it like to spend a day in the life of an adult? In JA Finance Park, students role-play as adults making real-life financial and consumer decisions related to their fictional household income, expenses, savings, and credit.

Students will experience what it is like to spend the day in adult's shoes and feel more prepared for success after completing JA Finance Park. This 4 hour simulation can be done over multiple sessions, or at once.

JA Our City (Grades: 3-4)

JA Our City teaches children the money choices consumers have (earn, save, spend, and donate), different methods of payment, and how to make wise money choices. They’ll learn the importance of economic exchange in a city, and how entrepreneurial businesses meet the needs and wants of citizens.

JA Our City includes a downloadable workbook for students to complete with a teacher/ caregiver, with links to 3-5 minute financial literacy music videos, discussion questions, and optional augmented reality activities using a mobile app.

Technology:

JA Crack the Code Virtual (Grades: 6-8)

Students will learn the basics of coding languages in a series of four one-hour workshops. Students will learn valuable coding and career readiness skills through virtual workshops, easy to follow lessons, and small projects and challenges to test their new skills. Current workshops include "Intro to App Development" for beginners and "JQuery and Javascript" for intermediate.
