MUNICH RE AMERICA VOLUNTEERS MEAN BUSINESS

Trenton, NJ – On June 17, 2008 volunteers from Munich Re America Corporation, a member of the Munich Re Group contributed their time as Junior Achievement volunteers to help Mott Elementary School students better understand business and the world of work.

The presence of these influential mentors in the Mott classrooms, together with JA’s hands-on instructional materials and techniques, form a powerful combination providing a practical understanding of economics, finance, and the value of an education.

As Catherine Milone-Richards, JA-NJ President, has said, "Junior Achievement programs could not have the profound impact they have on young people without the support of volunteers from the business community."  Teachers, parents, and school volunteers have a rich set of opportunities to teach personal finance, economic, and entrepreneurship concepts to young people through Junior Achievement’s reading-based strategies that embrace children’s literature with economic content facilitated by a corporate volunteer who in turn provide a real-world corporate perspective to the students.

About JA Worldwide®

Junior Achievement’s (JA) mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Through a dedicated volunteer network, JA provides in-school and after-school programs for students in grades K-12. JA offers workforce readiness programs that focus on seven key content areas: business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics/character, financial literacy, and career development. For the second consecutive year, JA Worldwide has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent evaluator of charities.  Receiving four out of a possible four stars two years running is yet another example of JA Worldwide’s vitality in the nonprofit sector, and speaks to the level of commitment by staff and supporters to ensure JA’s vision and purpose are met with integrity, respect, and excellence.

This year, Junior Achievement of New Jersey (JA-NJ), a member of JA Worldwide®, will reach approximately 30,000 students in the Garden State.  Since the merger in 2002 of the four Junior Achievement entities in New Jersey, JA-NJ now operates as a statewide 501(c) 3 organization with a governing State Board of Directors and three District Boards that help support both fundraising and program efforts in the southern, central, and northern parts of New Jersey.
